1.4 Million Voters Registered in 1st Phase BVR In 6 Counties
National Elections Commission (NEC) releases preliminary results of phase one Counties of the Biometric Voter Registration; says there are one million four hundred thirty-five thousand, two hundred and nine (1,435,209) registered.
Releasing the results on Monday, April 17, 2023, NEC Chairperson Davidetta Brown Lansanah said out of the 1.4 million registered voters, seven hundred eleven thousand four hundred and ten (711,410) are females while seven hundred twenty-three thousand seven hundred ninety-nine (723,799) are males, noting that these figures are subject to change due to the ongoing deduplication and adjudication process.
As per the Commission preliminary results, Bomi County amounted to a total of sixty-four thousand, three hundred ninety-five (64,395) while Gbarpolu is fifty thousand, eight hundred eighty-seven (50,887), and Grand Bassa also shows one hundred fifty-seven thousand, seven hundred twelve (157,712) registered voters.
The NEC on Saturday, 15th April, 2023 launched the phase two of the Civic and Voter Education (CVE) campaign of the BVR exercise in Ganta City, Nimba County, which followed a simultaneous sub launches at the 12 local Magisterial Offices in the nine Phase Two counties.
The Commission urged eligible Liberians in Phase Two to be ready to register in the nine counties of Bong, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Lofa, Maryland, Nimba, River Gee, River Cess and Sinoe as well as encouraged them to use the online Personal Data Entry application as an optional means of entering.
“To date, the MFDP has disbursed the amount of US$27,500,000.00 (Twenty-Seven Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars) out of the US$53,000,000.00, leaving a balance of US$25,500,000.00 (Twenty-Five Million Five Hundred Thousand)”, Mrs. Lansanah added.
