As Journalists across the globe commemorate World Press Freedom Day on May 3, 2023, the Director of Press & Public Affairs at the Honorable House of Representatives, Robert Haynes has lauded Liberian Journalists for the professional roles they continue to play in the dissemination of vital information to the public.
“On this World Press Freedom Day, as the Press Director of the Honorable House of Representatives in Liberia, I would like to extend my appreciation and gratitude to the media for their tireless efforts in keeping the public informed and engaged” he stated.
The House Spokesman believes that the media plays a vital role in promoting transparency and accountability in government, adding that through their reporting, they help to expose corruption, highlight issues of public concern, and hold those in power accountable for their actions.
Mr. Haynes further reaffirmed the House of Representatives’ commitment to upholding press freedom in Liberia.
He continued: “We recognize the important role of the media in informing the public about the work of the legislature and providing a platform for public debate and discussion”.
The Director of Press & Public Affairs at the House has at the same time called on journalists in Liberia to continue to exhibit professionalism at all times.
