ECOWAS, Liberia Congratulate Nigerian President-Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) through its Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government His Excellency General Umaru Sissoco Embalo has conveyed heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his election as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In a dispatch, His Excellency General Embalo appealed to all the stakeholders to promote peace and use constitutional means to address any grievances they may have.

Prior to the official declaration of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President-elect, the International Elections Observation Mission called on all political parties and their candidates to appeal to their supporters to exercise restraint and refrain from the use of provocative language and the dissemination of misinformation and disinformation which has the propensity to undermine the progressive democratic process of Nigeria.

At the same time, the Chief Executive of Liberia, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah has extended heartfelt congratulations to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has been declared the winner of Nigeria’s Presidential Elections. The poll was said to be the most closely fought in the country’s history.

Tinubu, the candidate of the ruling Party All Progressive Congress (APC), accumulated a majority of the votes over his rivals including former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and former Governor, Peter Obi.

According to an Executive Mansion release, President Weah has said he looks forward to working with the newly elected Nigerian leader in order to strengthen the bond of friendship that exists between both Nations.

The Liberian Leader urged all Nigerians to maintain the peace of their nation during such a huge democratic exercise.

President Weah commended outgoing President Mahammadu Buhari for presiding over the organization of the democratic process.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory as President-elect.

President Buhari on his Twitter post said President-elect Tinubu was elected by the people, describing him as the best person for the job.

“I shall now work with him and his team to ensure an orderly handover of power”, he stated.

Nigerian opposition parties have vowed to launch a legal challenge after Bola Ahmed Tinubu was on Wednesday declared the winner of the country’s controversial presidential elections.

Tinubu, 70, represents the ruling All Progressives Congress party, which received close to 8.8 million votes – about 36.6% of the total, according to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman Mahmood Yakubu.

There are violent clashes around Nigeria protesting the votes.
