For Passage Of Dual Citizenship Bill Into Law, All-Liberian Conference Honors Representatives

Monrovia: Over the passing of the Alien and Nationality Law of Liberia otherwise known as the “Dual Citizenship Law”, a U.S based group under the banner ‘All Liberian Conference on Dual Citizenship’ has honored Speaker Bhofal Chambers and members of the House of Representatives.

The group’s Chairman, Emmanuel Wettee, unveiled that dual citizenship is in Liberia’s economic interest as intimated by President Weah during his annual message to the Legislature Monday, 30 January.

Chairman Wettee, extols the House of Representatives for taking a broad base Nationalistic decision in keeping dual citizenship as a national agenda item is something he believes proves that lawmakers in Liberia are working beyond self-interest.

According to the statistics, Liberians in the United States sent about $ 90 million annually, to Liberia in terms of remittances and there are a lot of Liberian professionals, living in the U.S who are citizens (and) who would like to come back home to meaningfully contribute to the growth and development of their Country.

“Those things will help grow the Liberian economy and we are grateful, for the passage of the law,” Wettee enunciated.

ALCOD’s Chairman and delegation presented an Appreciation Plaque of Honor to House Speaker Dr. Bhofal Chambers in the House’s leadership meeting Monday, February 6, 2023.

It can be recalled; Lawmakers on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, July 19, finally passed the dual citizenship bill ending more than four decades of debates.

Moved by the group action, speaker Chambers hailed the group and quickly allowed the Chairman on Rules, Order, and Administration Hon. Johnson Gwaikolo to speak on behalf of the House.

While making remarks, Hon. Gwaikolo acknowledged the group’s recognition and appreciation to the Honorable House of Representatives for doing its work.

According to him, the honor will further enhance their work, vowing that the Legislature will continue to pass human sensitive legislation, that will greatly benefit the Country and its people no matter the location of Liberians.
