Thousands of supporters of the ruling Coalition of Democratic Change (CDC) have overwhelmingly endorsed the re-election bid of President George Weah and Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor.
Consequently, President Weah and his Vice President Taylor are contesting for the Presidency for the second time in the upcoming October 10, 2023, Presidential and Legislative elections.
The official endorsement staged by supporters of the ruling CDC party on Saturday, February 4, 2023, was tagged as a “1 million Citizens Rally” aimed at supporting the second term of the Weah and Taylor bid.
At the petitioning ceremony which took place at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in central Monrovia, CDC participants and other supporters chanted pro-slogans for President Weah and marched from various communities to gather at the ATS as well as at their party’s headquarters in Oldest Congo town to show their solidarity.
Meanwhile, President George Weah has accepted the petition for his re-election bid from various groups from across the country.
Weah, however, told Liberians that if he is given a second chance, Liberians can count on the changes he has made in the past years and they can be assured of a more transformative leadership under his 2nd term presidency.
“I am therefore both pleased and honored, to accept your nomination of me as your Standard Bearer, to lead our Party to seek a second six-year mandate from the Liberian People. I am certain that with your full support and backing, our victory is assured. You can count on the change that I have to deliver to you and will always provide more transformative leadership in the supreme interest of our Liberian people’’, Weah emphasized.
At the same time, the Liberian leader told the gathering he was happy to hear that other partisans are now seeking to join the CDC for the interest of the country.
“Let me now say a warm and enthusiastic welcome to all those parties who are now here seeking to join our Mighty Coalition! You have come to the right place, Ladies and Gentlemen! You have come to a Party that works, a Party that serves, a Party that achieves, a Party that succeeds, and above all, a Party that WINS!!” he stated.
Additionally, Kukatonon News sampled the views of some of the electorates, and here now are their expressions.
Alloycious Dombay of District #17
“I came to petition my President George Weah because he has done a great thing in Liberia. Number One he built roads, he made schools free in Liberia and he kept on doing things that people like. So that is why I want to carry him back and I want one round victory that will beat the opposition”.
Nickson Willie of District #15
“For the past six years, the president of Liberia has been serving the Liberian people in a very committed way. He developed the country and later did I know that for the first time in our history, that housing units were built and given to people for free. I never knew that our taxes could build roads, and hospitals unless the previous government, taxes were mismanaged but it is now we know that our taxes are working for us. So we are here to petition for the second time and we are sure that he will win”.
Alfred S. Gibson CDC Founding Member
“Well, I am a founding member of the global part, the Congress for Democratic Change, and whatever George Weah has promised the Liberian people as a deliverable, he has met up with those deliverables. So for this reason, he is a man when he says something, he has to implement what he says. We have come out today to appreciate him because Mr. Weah has never failed us”.
Emmanuel Weah from New Kru Town
“First of all, since this country was founded after its independence the army people, and the president built a hospital for them. All the counties, he is doing small, small projects for them. Go to popo’s beach, people’s houses got burnt the man built them house to live there free. So, if you get a woman and the woman can’t produce, she is not a good woman, because she doesn’t want to be bear for you then your expenses will go in vain but this man, (President Weah) is a woman who is productive for the family and he made the family go up, that I why I am behind for”.
Princess Bernard of Paynesville
“Well, I love Geroge Weah, and I just decided to be with him so my dream can come through another reason the free school and other development he is carrying in the country. Since my mother born me, the development President has carried on the country, I have not seen it like that before so that is why we want to vote for him president again in this 2023 election”.
