Political Tensions Rise as Henry Costa and Spoon Network Clash Over Vice President Koung’s U.S. Visa Status

Monrovia, Liberia – Prominent political commentator Henry P. Costa on Saturday voiced his support for Speaker Jonathan Fonati Koffa of the Liberian House of Representatives, condemning attempts by lawmakers to remove Koffa from his position. Costa, known for his direct critiques, described those seeking the Speaker’s ouster as “self-serving and greedy politicians,” motivated by personal gain.

In a scathing rebuke, Costa singled out Vice President Jeremiah K. Koung, accusing him of masterminding the ongoing crisis on Capitol Hill. According to Costa, Koung is pursuing his own presidential aspirations for 2029 and is collaborating with the majority bloc in the legislature to remove Speaker Koffa as a strategic move to consolidate power. Costa further alleged that Vice President Koung has been denied a U.S. visa due to “shady dealings,” suggesting that Koung’s relationship with the American government is under strain, preventing him from entering the United States.

However, Spoon Network—a major media outlet—has refuted Costa’s claims, reporting that Vice President Koung was issued a type D U.S. visa on October 24, 2024, which remains valid until October 22, 2025. Spoon Network indicated that the Vice President is expected to visit the United States in the coming weeks for both official and family purposes. According to sources at Spoon, Koung holds a class A2 visa, contradicting Costa’s assertion of a visa denial.

Adding to the mix, Solomon A. Ware, Sr., the official spokesman for Vice President Koung, responded cautiously when contacted by Kukatonon News, stating, “The office will officially speak to those issues after consultation, but for now, I am not authorized to speak to them, chief.” Ware’s response indicates that an official statement from the Vice President’s office may be forthcoming, potentially shedding more light on the matter.

As Costa’s allegations circulate widely, Spoon Network’s rebuttal and Ware’s reserved response introduce new dimensions to the unfolding political drama. The divergence in narratives not only underscores the escalating tensions within Liberian politics but also leaves the public to interpret contrasting claims in a rapidly evolving political landscape.
