Uncovering Non-Compliance, the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission Exposes Outgoing Government Officials Assets Declaration Listing
High-profile officials have been exposed by Liberia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) for their failure to comply with asset declaration mandates. These officials include Deputy Inspector General/Operations Melvin Sackor, Inspector General Patrick Sudue of the Liberia National Police, Managing Director Archie N. Donmo of the Liberia Petroleum Regulatory Agency, and NSA Deputy Director for Special Service Sam Siryon.
As required by Liberia’s 2014 Code of Conduct, the LACC released today its first list of government officials who have not complied. The LACC used Section 5.2 (o)(vi) of the modified LACC Act of 2022 to suggest legislative punishments for violating the Asset Declaration Guidelines.
The LACC’s action sends shockwaves through the political elite, raising concerns about accountability and transparency. Potential consequences range from withholding remuneration to denying government services and prohibiting future government jobs.
The destiny of noncompliant officials is in jeopardy as the LACC prepares to work with important government agencies such as the Ministry of Finance, Liberia Revenue Authority, Public Procurement and Concession Commission, Liberia Business Registry, and the National Identity Registry.
The LACC promises to update the list every week until the Exit Declaration procedure is completed and calls on all public authorities to comply. Liberia is at a turning point as the identities of powerful individuals come to light. Will this extraordinary crackdown redefine the country’s fight against corruption or highlight its shortcomings?
With the LACC promising to publish updated listings on its official website, in print, and across electronic media, this continuing effort is sure to keep the public interested.
