Government’s Employees Demand Increment in Salaries at Transport Ministry

the authorities of the Transport Ministry and the National Government to act on the increment in their salaries.

The aggrieved employees at the Transport Ministry on Friday, March 31, 2023, assembled at the premises of the Ministry in Monrovia, told reporters that since the Government’s pronouncement of the harmonization in salaries, workers at the Ministry are yet to experience the necessary impact as they still make below what should be the standard requirement of salaries for every government’s employee.

Expressing their grievances, aggrieved employees unearthed that it is an injustice for some staffers at the Ministry to earn ‘’70, 80, 90, or 100 United State Dollars as monthly salaries which they termed as far below to Government’s 150USD regulation as the minimum salary for the civil servants.

Leading the group of aggrieved workers, a technical Director at the Ministry, Jasper White told journalists that there is a complete salary disparity that is engulfing workers at the Ministry, noting that there are other Ministries’ and Agencies’ employees sharing the same positions with their salaries far better from theirs.

The Chair of the aggrieved workers, Jasper White threatens that they as workers will continue to stage a go-slow action at the premises of the Ministry if it fails to meet the attention of the National Government.

‘’The mean issue on the ground is that we said there is salary disparity among individuals in the employ of government with the same rank and title, and portfolio that receiving more salaries than us. Evident that there are people, there are inspectors at others ministries (Labor Ministry, Commerce Ministry, etc.) that are making far better as compared to inspectors within the Ministry of Transport, more to Directors, and Assistant Directors.

There are inspectors here that are Director here that are taking less than 150USD, their inspector here that taking  90USD, there janitors here that are taking, 70USD, 60USD and even 50USD, as well as other employees, are that fewer salaries’’, the aggrieved workers’ chair lamented.

Aggrieved employees through their chair, technical Director Jasper White threatened ‘’We will stage this peaceful assemble at the Ministry until the Government finds interest in it before we begin work as staffers, and we are planning to do more peaceful assembling in the coming days.

For his part, the Authority of the Transport Ministry, Minister Samuel Wlue assured aggrieved staffers that their plight of salaries increment will be made communicated to the Ministry of finance to be given the best solutions.

Minister Wlue urged aggrieved workers to remain claim, stating that the Ministry will work in the best way possible to create a way forward in the coming days.

‘’We will commit to a meeting with the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday (in the next few days), the committee will review the employees will be the best first step, so I encourage you (aggrieved workers’ chair) to let us meet and discuss and go working as usual’’,  the Transport Minister told the aggrieved employees.
