Unity Party Responds to Allegations of Mismanagement
In response to the allegations, the Unity Party has issued a statement categorically denouncing the story published in the Wednesday, January 24, 2024 edition of FrontPage Africa as false and malicious.
The article alleged that the National Chairman of the Unity Party (UP), Rev. Dr. J. Luther Tarpeh, directed the deduction of One Thousand ($1,000.00) United States Dollars from the Five Thousand ($5,000.00) United States Dollars allocated for district inauguration celebrations nationwide.
The Unity Party clarified that before fund disbursement to the counties, a meeting was initiated by all 15 County Chairs, during which they proposed the deduction of $1,000.00 per district. This decision enabled county leadership, collaborating parties, and auxiliaries to conduct similar celebrations at their respective county headquarters. The collective agreement for the deduction was not an instruction from the National Chairman, contrary to the implications of the publication.
The Unity Party urged the publisher to seek comments from the offices of the National Chairman, National Secretary, or the National Assistant Secretary-General for Press, Publicity, and Outreach to obtain the opposing perspective before disseminating such stories. The National Chairman is an esteemed figure, a dedicated clergyman, and an advocate for a corruption-free society. He upholds principles, values, and ethics and would not compromise on these.
Through this statement, the National Chairman has instructed all County Chairs to submit comprehensive expenditure reports of funds received to the National Secretariat by January 31, 2024.
Supporters of the Unity Party call for an immediate investigation into such grave allegations as it is too early for such a scandal since the Unity Party campaigned strongly accusing the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) of corruption.
