MICAT Rewards Winners of First Ever Miss Climate Change
As a way of showcasing the pride of the Culture and Tourism of the Country through entertainment, the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism Affairs Authorities has commendably rewarded three destined Liberian females as the first-ever representatives of Miss “Climate Change” in the country.
Recently, Miss Korkor Surprise Chie, Mariam Dolley, and Folecia H. Dagher along with several other females contested for the first ever “Miss Climate Change” pageant to have been hosted in Liberia.
The final of Liberia’s “Miss Climate Change” pageant was held on February 10, 2023, at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town with the intent of recognizing the Climate and Forestry sector of the County.
At the presentation ceremony held in the conference room of the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs on Thursday, March 2, 2023, a specially designed vehicle was presented to Miss Korkor Surprise Chie as the winner of the Miss on “Climate Change” pageant.
While the sum of two hundred-fifteen thousand, eight hundred, forty Liberian Dollars (LD$215,840) was presented to Miss Mariam Dolley as the first runner-up in the pageant followed by Miss Folecia H. Dagher as the second runner-up in the pageant walking away with an amount of one hundred, seventy-five thousand, eight hundred, forty Liberian dollars (175,840) respectively.
The presentation ceremony was graced by government Ministers, Directors, and individuals from different sectors including members of the international community on climate change among others.
Speaking at the occasion, the Deputy Minister responsible for Culture and Tourism Affairs, Princess Turkolon disclosed that the move by the Government is intended to create awareness for the protection of Climate Change in Liberia.
Deputy Minister Turkolon pointed out that as part of the targeted plan, by the government, the Culture and Tourism Department of Liberia did recognize the need to launch a patent for Climate Change to fully represent such awareness.
“In giving the awareness of climate change, we try to place our young beautiful queens to give awareness to climate change in Liberia through this pageant and it was such a great venture” she stated.
She recounted that there were about ten contestants that participated in the Miss Climate Change and those ten contestants were representing the ten early men of climate change among which three of them won as the winner, first runner up, and second runner-up respectively
Receiving the award, winner of Liberia’s Miss Climate Change, Korkor Surprise Chie expressed a high desire of representing an awareness of climate change, which according to her, came following a tough competition with her competitors which brought her as the winner of the pageant.
“I am honored to be the first-ever climate change Miss, and awareness of climate change. This is a great step for the culture and tourism department of our country” Miss Chie indicated.
She however vowed to fully respect the needs of Climate Change across Liberia which and help create more awareness of the negative effect of climate change and how it can be mitigated.
Meanwhile, the Culture and Tourism Affairs Department of Liberia is embarking on meaningful ways of creating the necessary awareness of the climate change that is paramount to tourism in Liberia.
