Credible reports from Indisputable, sources from the pinnacle of the Judiciary, have revealed that former Chief Justice of the Republic of the unitary state of Liberia, Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott and others were arrested, charged, and sent to the Monrovia City Prison for a night.

According to our Judicial reporter, Former Chief Justice Scott’s and others’ arrest and subsequent detention at the Monrovia City Prison, commonly known as South Beach, was based on the charges levied against her as well as the lack of evidence to prove there was a Burglary at her residence in Brewerville on the night Charloe Musu, her Niece was murdered.

It can be recollected that the Liberia National Police (LNP), in the investigation into the murder saga of  Charloe Musu, declared Former Chief Justice Gloria Musu-Scott and three others as prime suspects with crimes ranging from “Murder, Criminal Conspiracy, and False Alarm.”

Furthermore, the Police’s findings, suggest, Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott with three of her relatives, Gertrude Newton, Alice Johnson, and Rebecca Wisner, who were occupants of Cllr. Scott’s Residence and were at the incident scene, have been ascertained as prime suspects in the ghastly murder incident based on thorough investigations that established that was “No intruder” trace found at the home of Cllr. Scott.

Additionally, it can be remembered that on  February 22nd, 2023, Charloe Musu, Niece to the Former Chief Justice Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott was murdered by an unknown individual or Individuals at their Brewerville residence thus,  prompting huge security fear amongst citizens and causing a rapid police inquiry into the matter.

Moreover, elaborating on the three-count charges levied against Cllr. Scott and her relatives, during a major Press Conference on Wednesday, in Monrovia, the Head of the Crime Service Department Investigation Division at the Liberia National Police, Prince Mulbah, stressed that Police crime scene investigators found no break-ins to detect an invasion on the home of Cllr. Scott thus sufficiently proved them to advance the charges.

In furtherance, the LNP Crime and Investigation Division Head indicated that beyond police investigation, the residence of the Former Chief Justice is well-fortified with physical security features of iron gates and bars which makes it impossible for invader (s) to infiltrate the home without a signal of burglary.

“Today we have come to let the Liberian people know that, this investigation the Liberia National Police embarked on is coming to a close. At this point, we have identified prime suspects in the murder of Charloe Musu, in connection to that incident which occurred on February 22nd at the home of Former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott.

“And to let you the prime suspects in this case are: Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott, Gertrude Newton, Alice C. Johnson, and Rebecca Wisner were all occupants of the house during the incident. One will ask why had these families been held as prime suspects, the theory is it has been established and proven beyond all reasonable doubts that first of all there have been no intruders as it has been speculated or alleged”.

Mulbah cited that the outcome of the Liberia National Police’s investigation is tangible and evidence-based gathered through partners with security tips ensuring that the Police do not speculate and create room for false indictment.

He furthered that in line with the new penal law of Liberia, Cllr. Scott and the three others were arrested and are presently under police surveillance.

On the other hand, on Thursday, June 21st, the Resident Judge of Criminal Court “C”  Blamo Dixon,  granted the writ of Habeas Corpus filed by the legal representatives of Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott, to have their clients released from Police detention.

“HABEAS CORPUS” is a writ order to seek the custodian of an individual in custody to produce that person before the court to inquire about his or her detention.

According to Judge Dixon, the writ of Herbas Corpus was granted because they Cllr. Scott and others were unlawfully held in Police Custody.

Judge Dixon’s release is also based on the petition for writ of Herbas Corpus filed by Cllr. Scott’s legal team against the Ministry of Justice and the Liberia National Police, in which they cited Articles 21(f) of the Constitution of Liberia requesting the court to take Judicial notice.

At the same time, the legal team of Cllr. Scott has requested the Judge of Criminal Court ‘C’ to reduce the huge armed security presence from the house of their clients to have sanity in the environment she lives in as the case pursues.

Meanwhile, as the news of the arrest of Cllr. Scott is circulating Liberia and the international community like wildfire, many people both locally and internationally, are hoping that the Death of Charloe Musu, will not be like that of the late Angel Tokpa and expect that Justice will be done and the culprits be made to face the full weight of the law.
