Dean’s Ascendency to the Supreme Court Halted As Supreme Court issues Stay Order

Justice In Chambers Jamesetta Howard Wolokollie has issued a stay order on the confirmation of Cllr. Frank Musa Dean, as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia.

The stay order was issued following a Writ of Prohibition filed for by the incoming ruling Unity Party, by and through its Chairman, Rev. Luther Tarpeh, National Secretary-General Amos Tweh, and all other officials of the Unity Party in Monrovia, against the Liberian Senate, by and through its President, Jewel Howard Taylor, and Protemp Albert T. Chie, as well as the leadership of the Senate and the nominee for the Associate Justice position, Cllr. Frank Musa Dean.

Nominee Dean is the current Justice Minister and Attorney General of Liberia.

He  was nominated by President George Weah on the 26th of December 2023,  following the resignation from the Supreme Court’s bench by Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe, due to poor health.

Cllr. Dean’s nomination sparked serious debate and controversy, considering outgoing President Weah has till January 22, 2024 in power.  Will the Unity Party also pray for a writ of Prohibition against the nomination of Deputy Finance Minister Samora Wolokolie, who was nominated as Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority, replacing the late Thomas Doe Nah?
